Taft is a city at 955 feet above sea level on the southwest edge of the SAN joaquin valley in kern county, California. It was named after President William Taft in 1909.

Founded in 1922, Taft college is a public community college in Taft. The college is part of the California community college system, certified by the community and junior college accreditation board. The college is one of the few community colleges in California with an on-campus home.
